Jan 9- Full altar setup

In the January 9th video, I dismantle and reset my altar. Your altar, if you choose to have one, is incredibly personal to you and is a sacred space. You may choose to set up your altar completely differently to mine or anyone else, depending on your personal preference, path, and practice.

When I reset my altar, I start by smoke cleansing then placing a bit of salt in each corner and in the center in this pattern: N-S-E-W-Center

Next, I’ll put my altar cloth down and add the core items and tools that never leave my altar, for you this could include:

representation for each element (coming up in the next paragraph)

god and goddess candles

god and goddess representation

diety candles if working with any

tools such as a cauldron, wand, bell, offering bowls, pentacle, athame, chalice

herbs, salts, and essential oils

crystals

incenses

personally symbolic items

tarot decks

book of shadows

  • remember: everyone is different, you may not have all of these items or have additional items.

Typically, each of the elements is represented on the altar, like so:

Earth in the north; crystals, salts, herbs, flowers

Air in the east; incense, wand, bell, feather

Fire in the south; candle, athame, suns

Water in the west; seashells, chalice, water bowl

You could also use color to represent the elements:

Earth: green

Air: Yellow

Fire: Red

Water: Blue

Spirit: Purple

God and goddess representation:

god: white candle, god statues, antler, horn, on the right

goddess: black candle, goddess stature, shells, flowers, on the left

I always want to enforce the idea that blogs and videos like this supplementary to additional research. Neither I or any other individual is an expert and I can only hope to provide a jumping off point for research and experimentation!
